Shiloh Baptist Church’s property at 1600 8th St NW
Coincidently, just as the Ward 2 Core team was out surveying vacant and nuissance properties along 9th Street (and in Blagden Alley and Naylor Court) on August 1, workmen were seen doing a bit of indoor and outdoor cleanup at two of Shiloh Baptist Church’s properties on 8th Street.

The facade of this property on 405
O Street NW, opposite the “Dunbar Park” has kept the facade supported for some time. But for years, little action has been seen to rebuild the rest of the structure.

DCRA announced requests for raze permits for the following properties in Shaw this week.
The owner(s) of 438 & 440 N Street has applied for raze permits in order to replace the existing structures with single family dwellings.
Looks like the owner will have Covenant Construction Inc. preserve the facade of this house at 436 Ridge Street NW, since s/he has requested to raze the rest of the structure.
The owner of 1830 has requested that this property (at right) be razed to make way for a 2-story apartment building, just behind the old Wonder Bread warehouse (below).

The owner of 1100 6th Street have appplied to raze it in order to make space fo rtwo 1 story commercial buildings.

Taking a tour through Blagden Alley. From the left: Joe Martin, Cliff Dedrick (DCRA), Phil Miller (DCRA), Roberto Medrano (DOH), Lt. Mike Smith, Hal Davitt (Blagden Alley Pres).
DCRA inspector Phill Miller gives vagrants, rumaging through garbage in back of a vacant property, a warning about trespassing. Craig Keller, from the Dept. of Mental Health, was also on hand to offer such “neighbors” — as Mayor Fenty calls them — a helping hand as they deal with homeless issues.
