This month, Busboys and Poets was kind enough to offer the second floor of their new restaurant and some lip-smacking finger foods for our meeting. I felt it was a big success and hope we can return their soon. Thanks, Busboys!

Our guests tonight included Chris Otten of the DC Library Dynamos, and ANC candidates Theresa Sule and Jessica Lanza.

Here are the meeting notes.

ANC 2C meets tomorrow 10/1 at 6:30pm I think.  Presumably at Kennedy Rec., the agenda is a total mystery.  No meeting notice has been provided.  Actually MVSNA never gets a meeting notice from either of our Commissioners, Doris Brooks or Barbara Curtis or their controlling unelected “Parliamentarian” Leroy Thorpe.  Usually ANC 2C02 Commissioner Chapple posts it on his website but perhaps he didn’t get one either, that has happened a lot too.
This needs to stop.  I urge you all in ANC 2C to make sure you are registered to vote by the deadline, October 6th and please VOTE!  There are viable candidates challenging the incumbent Commissioners Brooks & Curtis.  Please take a look at Theresa Sule running for 2C04 and Jessica Lanza running for 2C03.
Recently an ANC candidate, Sarah Livingston, published her latest edition of the Seventh Streeter with some thought provoking commentary on ANC 2C.  Whether you agree with her conclusions or not, it is worth a read.  Commentary & discussion on FifthandOh and ANC2C02.
P.S.  A warm welcome back, Daddy5Oh, to shaw bloggin.

Tonight, there was a candle light vigil for Tony Randolph Hunter in our neighborhood.  Tony and his friend were attacked on their way to BeBar on September 7 at the corner of 8th and N Streets.  Tony did not survive his injuries and passed away 10 days later.  The police report describes the attackers as four black males between 19 and 22 years old with each wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt.
The vigil began with a memorial service at Metropolitan Community Church, where Tony’s friends remembered him and members of the GLBT community urged city leaders to act to better protect our safety.  In addition, an individual spoke about how he suffered a similar beating due to his sexual orientation in Adams Morgan and the revitalization of a group called GLOV (Gays and Lesbians Opposing Violence) to organize the community.  About 150 people then walked from the church up 5th Street, across O Street to 9th Street walking past BeBar, then to the area of 8th and N Street where Tony was found unconscious.
Police are reportedly close to making an arrest and have not classified this horrible act as a hate crime, a robbery, or a seemingly senseless attack.  Regardless of the perpetrators’ motivation, it is yet another act of violence in our neighborhood and we should all be united in our outrage.  With crime cameras on every other block, shotspotter, and a surge of police officers stationed nearby, this continues to go on.   Outrage is not enough.  Those who have any information on this or any other crime in our neighborhood need to start speaking out and doing it now.

We had a terrific Mount Vernon Square Neighborhood Association meeting tonight, at City Vista. It was lovely to meet a number of new neighbors who attended. A couple highlights: Si’s coconut toffee bars were toothsome and Sara reported that Bus Boys and Poets’ soft opening was in progress.

Check out the meeting notes (http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dd43xvtr_38ccgbsrd7) for more…
