Is UHOP ever going to be a good neighbor and give us advance notice of their events.  I have mentioned a possible need for weekend zoned parking in the past and after this weekend I’m bringing up the subject again.

The V Apartments at City Vista will have their grand opening this Saturday from 10:00-5:00.

I found the website for these new apartments (www.thevapartments.com). It mostly consists of Coming Soon links.

According to this article from the Washington Business Journal, Broadcast Center One — a major, catalytic mixed use development above the Shaw-Howard metro station on 7th street — could still break ground this year. In relevant part, the article states:
Chip Ellis, chief executive officer of D.C.-based Ellis Development Group and one of the project’s partners, […]

Thanks to Alex Padro and Shaw Main Streets for putting on another informative community forum on area development projects last night. Unfortunately I arrived late, so I did not get to see or hear about several of the major projects in various places in the pipeline for Shaw. Nonetheless, I heard enough to get very […]

A neighbor alerted me to a zoning hearing set for tomorrow morning regarding the infamous properties at 9th and Q Streets and Rhode Island Avenue. Owner Michael Sendar seeks a variance from the properties’ R-4 designation to allow general retail (but there is no identified tenant or retail use). Purportedly, the proposed zoning relief will […]

Here is an announcement from Shaw Main Streets (from Renewshaw):Shaw Main Streets will present its fifth annual Community Forum on Development Projects on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 6:30 PM in the Executive Orders area at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Place, NW. Developers with major projects planned or underway in central Shaw will present their plans or update the community on the status of their endeavors with illustrated PowerPoint presentations. This is also an opportunity to ask developers questions about their activities in the neighborhood and how their projects will benefit the community. Developers invited include Marriott Hotels (Marriott Marquis Convention Center), Douglas Development (600 block of New York Avenue, NW and Wonder Bread Factory), Banneker Ventures (700 block of Florida Avenue, NW), Roadside Development (City Market at O), Broadcast Center Partners (Broadcast Center One), Howard Theatre Restoration (Howard Theatre), and Hines Interests (City Center). SMS will also announce the latest results of the annual survey of new business development preferences for the neighborhood. This event is free and open to the public, and no reservations are required. For more information, call SMS at 202-265-SHAW or visit www.shawmainstreets.com.It would be great if people could attend this because a lot of this development will shape the neighborhood going forward due to its proximity or outright inclusion in the case of Douglas… (I won’t be able to, unfortunately)

Do it for the old people

I swear there are certain promises and proposals that get hoisted up the flagpole that supposedly wave you through, “affordable housing”, “senior housing”, youth something or other. I gather you propose these things and certain rules no longer apply to you and thus you get away with all sorts of foolishness. Yesterday I wandered by a site that, according to the historic papers I had been going

Today is the official opening day of the new “urban lifestyle” Safeway in City Vista, at 5th and K Streets, Northwest. We decided to make a grocery run there this morning in anticipation of a cookout we’re having this weekend. All I can say is “wow.”The store is well staffed, well stocked, well appointed, and […]
